About the game

Iron Front is a classic real-time strategy game, the kind we played after school in the early 2000s. Deploy your mobile HQ, build power plants, send harvesters for ore, put up barracks and a war factory, then lead your army against the enemy base. You win when every enemy building is destroyed.

If you played Red Alert 2, you will feel at home: two sides, the Coalition and the Red Bloc, prism and tesla towers, armoured harvesters, engineers that capture buildings, a lightning storm and a nuclear missile. Prices, hit points, speed and build times were checked against the rules of the classic game, so the old tricks still work.

The graphics are our own: 3D, but with the same camera angle and spirit, and you can rotate and zoom. Play solo against the computer on three difficulty levels or online with friends, 1v1 and 2v2, on two maps: Valley and Islands.

How to play

  1. Press Play, then choose a map, an opponent and a side: the Coalition or the Red Bloc.
  2. Select the mobile HQ and press Deploy: it turns into a construction yard.
  3. Build a power plant, then an ore refinery: it comes with a free harvester that starts hauling ore.
  4. Build barracks and a war factory and order infantry and tanks from the sidebar.
  5. Select units with a left click or a box; right-click to move or attack.
  6. Camera: WASD or arrow keys, Q and E rotate, the mouse wheel zooms. On a Mac without a mouse, right-click is Ctrl+click.

Questions and answers

Do I need to download anything to play Iron Front?

No. The game runs right in your browser: press Play and the match starts in a few seconds. Nothing to install.

Is it free?

Yes, it is free to play, with no subscriptions and no in-game purchases.

Does it work on a Mac?

Yes. The game runs in the browser on Mac, Windows and Linux: in Chrome, Safari, Edge and Firefox. You need a computer with a mouse or a trackpad.

Can I play with a friend online?

Yes. Sign up (only a nickname and a password), add your friend and create a room in the lobby. You can play against the computer without signing up.

What happens if I refresh the page or lose my connection?

Your match is not lost. A game against the computer is saved automatically in your browser and continues from the same spot. In an online match you have time to come back.

No. Iron Front is our own game, made from scratch and inspired by Red Alert 2: similar rules and a familiar world, but our own graphics, names and code.

Yes, on three levels: easy, medium and hard. The computer builds a base, keeps harvesters busy, attacks in waves and uses superweapons. There is also a sandbox where the opponent does nothing.

How many people can play together?

Up to four: 1v1 or 2v2, team against team.
