Rise of Powers: play online in your browser
Historical real-time strategy inspired by Rise of Nations: lead your people from antiquity to modern times, found cities and push your borders.
Free, no download, no install. Works on Windows, Mac and Linux in Chrome, Safari, Edge and Firefox.
About the game
Rise of Powers is a strategy game where all of history passes in a single match. Citizens work farms, woods and mines, you found new cities and push your borders, research knowledge in the library and advance from age to age, while your army grows from slingers and spearmen to cannons and tanks.
If you played Rise of Nations, you will recognise the essentials: eight ages, six resources with a commerce cap, borders where attrition wears down the enemy, capturing cities instead of razing them, and eight nations with their own strengths. Costs, times, damage and armour classes come from the rules of the classic game.
The graphics are our own: buildings and troops rendered in Blender with light, shadows and texture, and the building style changes by nation and age, from wood and stone to brick and steel. Play against the computer on three levels or online with friends, 1v1 and 2v2.

How to play
- Press Play, choose a nation and press Start match.
- Select citizens and place 3–5 farms near the city and a lumber mill by the woods. Train more citizens in the city.
- Research technologies from the library bar at the top and advance to the next age.
- Build barracks and train troops. A citizen founds a new city on your land, pushing the border out.
- Left click selects, right click orders: move, attack, work, build. The wheel zooms.
- The match saves itself every 10 seconds: refresh the page and carry on.
Mechanics and rules
Ages and resources
- Eight ages, from Ancient to Information. Advancing costs resources and requires library research.
- Six resources: food, timber, metal, wealth, knowledge and oil. Income is limited by the commerce cap, which research raises.
- Library: four branches of knowledge, military, civic, commerce and science, seven levels each.
Cities and borders
- Every city and fort extends the border; you can only build on your own land.
- Enemy troops on your land lose health to attrition; a supply wagon nearby protects them.
- A city at zero health is not destroyed: infantry or cavalry capture it and it changes hands.
Eight nations
- Romans, Greeks, Egyptians, Chinese, British, Mongols, Russians and Germans, each with their own advantages.
- For example, Roman forts are cheaper and faster, Mongol cavalry is cheaper and faster, Russian attrition hurts the enemy twice as much.
Troops
- Eight unit lines: light and heavy infantry, archers, machine guns, light, heavy and ranged cavalry, siege.
- Upgrading a line upgrades all its units at once. You win by taking or destroying every enemy city.
